Century-old tea factory gutted in Darjeeling hills

Siliguri (WB), Jan 14 (PTI) The century-old tea factory at Longview tea estate with more than 70,000 kg of tea leaves was gutted at Kurseong in West Bengal's Darjeeling Hills, authorities said.
Siliguri（WB）、1月14日（PTI）に、70,000kg以上の茶の葉によるLongview茶地所の世紀前のお茶工場は西部ベンガルのダージリンヒルズでKurseongで内部を破壊されたと、当局が言いました。

Officials at Kurseong fire station said it took ten hours to bring the blaze under control yesterday. A gas cylinder kept inside the factory burst in the heat and fire spread fast, Office-in-charge D Lepcha said.

Nobody was injured, Lepcha said adding the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit.

The Longview tea garden has 1,300 workers.

"More than 80 per cent of the four-storey tea factory is reduced to ashes," Chief Executive Officer of Longview tea garden, R S Tiwari said.

This is the third incident of fire destroying a tea factory in Darjeeling Hills in the past 12 years. The factories at Ringtong tea estate and Montiviot tea estate were gutted in 1996 and 2004 respectively.
